If you love Mill Road and want to see its vibrant and independent nature continue please come along. We are an active campaigning group. Millycard scheme has 850 local resident cardholders and many traders involved. We aim to support our small independent shops and businesses and community vitality to ensure a sustainable future. Independent trading is a positive alternative to multinational chain stores. This is your opportunity to get involved and take part in your local community.

Round : Mill Road Society 1, Sainsbury’s 0

October 27th, 2011

At  East Area Committee meeting the Sainsbury’s proposal for change of use from leisure to retail use for Mickey Flynns was soundly defeated by 8 votes to 1.  Thanks to everyone who turned up at the meeting, all the committee members and other volunteers who helped with the gathering of information and helping keep Mill Road free from another large supermarket chain opening on Mill Road.  It is more than likely that Sainsbury’s will appeal the decision, but as it stands at the moment;

WE HAVE STOPPED THEM TAKING THE MICKEY!

Please click on the following links to see copies of our response to the planning officers report, our official objection to Sainsbury’s application and our submission to the East Area Committee meeting.

Response to planning officer’s report

MRS Objection 240711

Speech to EAC

As you will see from these documents the amount of work gone into them by various members of the society has been phenominal.  Our thanks go to those who helped draft these documents, to all the volunteers and individuals who have helped keep this issue in the public eye and everyone who signed the petition and supported our campaign to keep Mill Road from becoming just another cloned street bereft of all character and individuality
